Modem Initialization Strings (Extra Settings)

Listed Alphabetically by Modem manufacturer.

Extra Settings can be added by clicking on

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Modems

Select your modem and click Properties

Select the Connection tab at the top

Click the Advanced button at the bottom right

Add the Extra Setting at the bottom

Click OK, then OK again and retry the connection

NOTE: Many of the initialization strings listed here will disable 56k in an effort to get your modem connected, and keep it from dropping the connection. Those specifically designed to turn on V90 are listed as such. If your modem requires a 56k disable string to get you connected at all, we recommend 2 courses of action. First, visit your modem or PC manufacturer's web page and search for any Driver or Firmware Upgrades. If you already have the latest drivers, or the update was no help, you will need to contact your local telephone carrier regarding Line Noise and Signal Strength.

Diamond support advises AT&F1 W2 for all supra's. Add +MS=11,0 to get connected at v.34
As well, setting it to the Windows 98 Standard 56k Modem Driver will work.

For Apollo (LT WinModem) and Mars(LT PCI WinModem) chipsets:
Enable V.90 -V90=1
Disable V.90 -V90=0

Venus chipsets (mostly used in external modems):
K56Flex only (V.90 disabled) S109=0
K56Flex or V.90 S109=1
V.90 only (K56Flex disabled) S109=2

The correct string to get v.34 from a Venus chipset is S109=2S109=0
For Lucent-based K56flex modems that do not also support V.90, add S38=0 to the end of your modem init string.

this one disables v90 and is SUPPOSED to revert the modem to x2, but it actually reverts it to v34, but if you have line noise as a connection factor, this is the one that will keep it connected.

Rockwell ISA Boards:
usually represented by ATI3 : vx.xxx-k56(or V90)_DLP or something
AT command fix : +MS=11,0

Rockwell PCI Boards: (HCF)
usually represented by ATI3 : v2.1.2.xxx.x
AT command fix : +MS=V34

Remember that a Rockwell-based K56Flex modem upgraded to V.90 no longer supports K56Flex

For most Rockwell ISA chipsets:
V.90 preferred(K56Flex will still work) +MS=12,1
Disable V.90 and K56Flex, use V.34 +MS=11,1

Rockwell HCF chipsets:
V.90 preferred(K56Flex will still work) +MS=V90
K56Flex preferred(V.90 will still work) +MS=K56FLEX

3. MNP5 Init String: AT&F&C1&D2W2S48=128
This configuration will bypass the V.42bis and V.42 negotiation and attempt MNP5 first.
4. MNP4 Init String: AT&F&C1&D2W2S48=128%C0
This configuration will bypass the V.42bis and V.42 negotiation and attempt MNP4 first.
